The efficient design of complex, multimedia-intensive, heterogeneous multiprocessing (HMP) systems-on-chip (SoCs) for inclusion in HDTVs and related consumer-oriented systems presents a daunting array of challenges. For example, a Optimized multimedia firmware will further take advantage of the available hardware accelerators and multi-processing resources, while maintaining full compatibility with standard development and integration environments, such as OpenMax. Modern embedded systems are used for connected, media-rich, and highly integrated handheld devices such as mobile phones, digital cameras, and MP3 players. ST-Ericsson's new family of system-on-chip is capable of SMP which allows different processes to be split among several processors based on performance and power requirements. Both hardware design and integration of new development tools are discussed. Given the highly competitive nature of the mobile industry, multiprocessing has been adopted as a marketing tool. DigiTimes estimates that Chinese SoC developers will enjoy robust shipment growth in 2012. Adoption of multicore[ ] technology on the desktop, in the data center, and now in embedded designs responds to comparable needs – scaling compute capacity without stepping up system clocks and attaining more MIPS per watt for next- generation devices and applications. Mainstream multicore on the desktop and in data centers requires Symmetric Multi-Processing (SMP) support from deployed Operating Systems (OSs). In response to the ever increasing performance demanded by the market. The AllWinner A31 processor has been designed to target the growing tablet market. This highly visible, differentiating feature is used to pass the oversimplified message that more platforms (such as the effective impact on software performance, chip frequency, area and power performance simply scaled at the same rate as the hardware evolution, without the need to make. This provides a good overview of the SoC simulation landscape, from processor architecture through hardware design to software development, system integration, and testing. This book describes strategies for future system design in multiprocessor system-on-chip (MPSoC) architectures.
